What would it take for you to pick up and move?

I ask myself this every time we visit Steamboat Springs Colorado, and the answer always used to be my son.  But this year my son went with us to visit the great beauty and wanted to know why we didn't move out there after the first time we visited over 10 years ago.  I really didn't have an answer for him, other then the because of you.

So I asked him if we could move and he said lets go home, grab our stuff and never look back.

As much as I would love to do that, it just not that simple.

Sure me and the hubs could get new jobs, but I really don't want to have to have my son switch schools again.  I did that to him way to much when he was younger and now that we have him back where he belongs he has good grades, great friends and is on the football team, plays in the band and for once I don't have to worry about him.

And to me that is enough to keep us here for at least another 3 years.  When the time comes for him to graduate and go to college, the hubs and I will make the decision to make the big move to Colorado.  Until then, I will be content with my 5 acre plot of land just outside Hutchinson, MN.

Now that being said, if I got my dream job offered to me I would have to reconsider.

  3. If I could pick up and move some place else I'd seriously consider it! The job market here in Michigan is less than desirable! But at this point moving is not an option.

  5. I alm ost wrote on Mama Kat's prompt this week on this same thing. I moved to CO when I was 24 - fresh from college, no responsibilities, just packed my car and drove. Stayed in a hostel for a month till I got a job and found a place and loved the noncommital of it. Now? I have 3 (maybe 5) kids to consider, friendships, career, and community. It's not nearly as easy as in my early 20's.

I miss that freedom at the same time I revel in the security.

Meanwhile I would LOVE it if you would move here and you'd already have friends & connections!

  7. It definitely is different with children.... my hubby and I moved here to Denver in 1998 and we DID just pick up and move! We'd been living in St. Louis and he was out here on a project for Ernst & Young -traveling 100% and I came out to visit some girlfriends who'd moved out here after college (denver was listed as #1 city to live by US News&World reports the year they graduated so they just plopped themselves down!) anyway on that trip I literally found an apartment and put our house we'd lived in for 10 months only on the market and we quit our jobs and moved... just like that. SUCH a long time ago now it seems and not only did we not have kids but the economy was different. back then you could move to town and find a job within days!
    LOVE Steamboat LOVE colorado!
